Three-way comparison

EGO 30-inch LM3004SP-2 versus 22-inch walk-behinds

The EGO LM3004SP-2 uses an advertised 30-inch deck and two blade motors. The LM2244SP-2 and LM2236SP are 22-inch walk-behinds. The large model’s appeal is not simply a higher number: a wider path may suit open, relatively unobstructed ground, while a 22-inch deck may be easier to route through a narrow access point. Compare the place you mow and store the machine before making deck width an essential filter; confirm complete mower weight separately if lifting is part of your routine.

Start with the route, not the lawn’s acreage

Walk the mower’s whole path from storage to grass. Measure gate and shed openings, tight turns, stepping-stone runs, and gaps around beds. The LM3004SP-2’s product page calls it 30 inches; its linked manual gives 30.8 inches as the deck size, not the complete machine width. Those numbers do not establish whether a folded handle or mower body clears a particular gate. If the route is close, use manufacturer dimensions or measure an actual unit before choosing.

The manual also lists the LM3000SP-family mower at 103.6 pounds without batteries and with the mulch insert. The LM3004SP-2 kit adds two 6.0 Ah batteries, though the inspected sources do not give a complete loaded weight. Self-propel helps while mowing but does not solve lifting, loading, or close maneuvering. EGO’s 22-inch LM2244SP-2 and LM2236SP are therefore useful comparison points for homeowners who want a narrower machine, not automatic recommendations for every smaller lawn.

Compare the battery routines

LM3004SP-2 and LM2244SP-2 both have two active battery ports and ship as two-pack kits. The 30-inch kit includes two 6.0 Ah batteries and a Dual Port Charger; the 22-inch LM2244SP-2 kit also includes two 6.0 Ah packs and a Dual Port Charger. The narrower LM2236SP is a one-pack configuration with a 10 Ah battery, so it avoids the two-pack kit and charge routine but does not provide dual-port operation. Battery amp-hours are per pack; two 6 Ah packs are not one 12 Ah battery.

EGO publishes up to 75 minutes for LM3004SP-2, and its linked manual specifies approximately 75 minutes with two 6 Ah packs in Mode 1. That mode is identified as the lowest-noise, longest-runtime selection; faster blade modes use more energy. EGO’s page publishes up to 90 minutes for LM2244SP-2 with its two included 6 Ah batteries, while the LM2236SP page publishes up to 75 minutes for its 10 Ah pack. These figures use different mower designs and stated conditions; they are not comparable area-per-charge tests. Thick, wet, tall, or dense grass and a low cut can change runtime substantially.

Deck, controls, and work plan

LM3004SP-2 has a Super Composite deck, two independent blades, Touch Drive self-propelled control, and three blade-speed modes. The 22-inch LM2244SP-2 is also Super Composite and self-propelled with Touch Drive, but it uses the 22-inch Select Cut platform with two active ports and a different control and cutting system. LM2236SP is a single-pack 22-inch Super Composite mower with Touch Drive and five-position clip selection. If cast aluminum is essential, compare the LM2206SP instead; deck material is a real material choice, not a durability ranking.

The manual family for the LM3004SP-2 describes nine cut heights from 1 to 5 inches with separate front and rear levers; EGO says both ends should be set alike. It supports mulching, bagging, and side discharge, but changes between those routines require different arrangements. The manual says the mulch insert comes installed, the bag requires removing the insert, and side discharge uses the insert with the chute. The exact LM3004SP-2 page lists the modes, while its linked manual cover names LM3000SP/LM3000SP-FC rather than the kit code. Its replacement high-lift blade set is listed as an accessory, not confirmed in the package.

When to wait or choose a different width

EGO’s product page currently marks both LM3004SP-2 and the LM3000SP bare-tool variant “Coming Soon.” No release date, current stock, price, or seller listing is asserted here. A shopper who needs a mower now should compare the other reviewed EGO kits and verify an exact SKU at a retailer rather than assuming the new wide-deck kit can be purchased. A buyer planning for a broad, open mowing route may still want to track LM3004SP-2 because the 30-inch deck and dual-motor arrangement are distinct. For either width, keep the manual’s 15-degree slope limit, dry-grass direction, matched front/rear height setting, and battery-removal steps in the ownership plan.

Use the finder’s 30-inch minimum only if the wider cut is genuinely necessary. Add a two-port requirement only if two active ports matter; a two-battery package alone does not prove the same thing. Treat an unknown included high-lift blade as unmet when it is essential. For closer assessments see LM3004SP-2, LM2244SP-2, and LM2236SP.
