EGO LM2142SP, LM2135SP or LM2156SP?

Three 21-inch EGO walk-behinds can look similar in a product grid while asking for different battery and control choices. LM2142SP is the two-pack Peak Power kit with a trigger and separate speed lever. LM2135SP is a single-7.5-Ah Select Cut kit with Touch Drive. LM2156SP is a single-10-Ah Select Cut XP kit, also with Touch Drive. Compare the exact configuration code, not a family name or a runtime headline.

Start with battery arrangement, not minutes

LM2142SP is listed with two 5.0-Ah batteries and a 550-W charger in EGO's 2026 catalog; the product page calls the charger Rapid and claims up to 80 minutes with the included pair. The page describes Peak Power as combining any two EGO 56V ARC Lithium packs. The linked manual says it can use one or two batteries, but the two-pack setup is the relevant one for the stated maximum. The older manual also gives load-dependent estimates with the 5-Ah pair, so do not turn 80 minutes into a coverage promise for a lawn with unknown grass, moisture or cutting conditions.

LM2135SP and LM2156SP each use one supplied pack in their reviewed kits: 7.5 Ah and 10 Ah respectively. Their maximum-runtime figures are also manufacturer claims, and battery capacity alone does not predict area. If charging logistics and included capacity per pack are your priority, compare the kit contents and charging time. If the desired arrangement is specifically two installed packs working together, LM2142SP is the one of these three that documents that setup. A question asking for at least 7.5 Ah in each included pack should not count its two 5-Ah batteries as one 10-Ah pack.

Then compare how each mower moves and cuts

The LM2142SP manual shows a separate drive trigger and speed-control lever. LM2135SP and LM2156SP use Touch Drive: pressure at the palm control engages self-propel while a dial changes travel speed. Those are not just different labels for the same handle. If control feel matters, decide which type you want before comparing the kits. For people who sometimes want to move the mower without the blade running, the LM2142SP manual says the self-propel function can operate independently of the blade switch.

The blade systems also separate the models. LM2142SP is not identified as Select Cut in EGO's current comparison chart; its manual and product page describe a single mower blade with standard and compatible high-lift replacement options. LM2135SP has Select Cut and two documented lower blades in the reviewed kit; LM2156SP's Select Cut XP kit lists three lower blades, including a high-lift bagging option. If an included high-lift blade is essential, verify the exact LM2135SP or LM2156SP package details rather than assuming the LM2142SP's bagging mode includes that accessory.

Choose the mower that fits the route

All three are 21-inch walk-behinds with self-propelled drive, so none becomes a riding mower or eliminates the need to guide each row. Their cutting width can help estimate pass count, but it says nothing by itself about gate access, cornering room or storage clearance. EGO's LM2142SP evidence has a further caveat: the current catalog lists 55.8 pounds without battery, while its linked LM2140SP-family manual lists 62.61 pounds with the mulch insert and without a battery. Until that discrepancy is reconciled, do not choose it on a claimed weight advantage.

The practical split is straightforward: keep LM2142SP on the list for its two-pack Peak Power package and conventional drive lever; look at LM2135SP for one 7.5-Ah pack, Touch Drive and Select Cut; consider LM2156SP when you want the 10-Ah kit and the more extensive Select Cut XP blade set. In each case, confirm the retailer's exact SKU, included batteries, charger and blade inventory.
