Two-model comparison

Greenworks LM2208S or LM2138S? Compare the exact 80V kits

Both of these Greenworks walk-behind mowers use the 80V battery family and rear-wheel self-propel drive, but the kits are not interchangeable by name alone. The LM2208S is the 22-inch dual-blade SKU 2548102 with two 4.0Ah batteries. The LM2138S is a 21-inch three-route mower in SKU 2515902 with one 4.0Ah pack. If you already own Greenworks 80V tools, the shared platform may matter; it does not remove the need to check the exact battery carton or the mower’s separate manual.

Width and handling

One inch of deck width is a modest difference, not a universal productivity advantage. Greenworks lists the LM2138S’s assembled width as 22.05 inches even though its cutting deck is 21 inches. The exact LM2208S page lists the deck width but not the full assembled dimensions. Measure the real gate, turning route and storage place before paying extra for the wider deck. A longer cut on each pass is useful only if the mower reaches the lawn and can turn where needed.

Both pages identify powered rear-wheel travel, but neither makes self-propelled drive a substitute for safe footing. Greenworks’ FAQs for both exact pages state a 15-degree maximum and recommend crossing the slope; the manuals also caution against up-and-down mowing and wet grass. The LM2138S page’s linked manual has different cover codes, so verify the delivered mower’s label and manual before maintenance or parts orders.

Battery count and clipping routes

LM2208S brings two separate 4Ah packs in the exact 2548102 kit; its LMB40001 manual says one pack can run the mower and two can extend runtime. LM2138S brings one 4Ah pack. Do not turn two 4Ah packs into a fictional single 8Ah battery or infer acres from a capacity sum. The manufacturer’s “up to” times and acreage are conditional maximums, not measured outcomes for thick, steep or wet lawns.

LM2138S has three named routes: mulch, rear bag and side discharge, and its exact page lists a bag and side-discharge attachment. Its package list does not name a mulch plug; the linked manual depicts one, but that manual cover uses different internal codes. The LM2208S page markets a fourth “Turbo Leaf Pickup” mode, while its manual describes Turbo as a temporary increase in cutting speed and separately identifies mulch, bag and side discharge. Its package list does not settle whether every mode-specific insert or chute ships in the box. Its page also lists one high-lift blade, but that phrase is not proof of the separately named high-lift blade set or any specific lower-blade configuration. If the exact blade is an essential part of your plan, verify the part identity and package contents rather than relying on promotional shorthand.

Height, weight and the choice

The LM2138S page gives seven cut-height positions from 1⅜ to 3¾ inches. The LM2208S page states seven settings, but its linked manual says eight; use the range and confirm the delivered mower before making the number of stops a hard requirement. Weight also needs care: LM2208S’s product page lists 71 pounds without a clear battery basis. LM2138S’s page lists 71.65 pounds, while the linked manual for different cover codes gives 62.8 pounds without a pack. Neither is a clean comparison of identical ready-to-mow configurations.

Choose LM2138S if a 21-inch deck and one-pack mower with documented bag/mulch/side-discharge modes fits your gate and routine; confirm the mulch-plug contents if it must be included. Consider LM2208S if two separate 4Ah packs and its dual-blade 22-inch deck solve a real need; do not assume its acreage or blade marketing settles the decision. In either case, match the exact model code to the box, measure storage, plan dry-ground mowing, and keep the correct instructions with the mower.
