A useful fit for

A current U.S. gas lawn tractor with a fitted 54-inch deck, conventional steering wheel and pedal-operated hydrostatic travel. Confirm full-machine route clearance; deck width is not outside width.

The main tradeoff

The 54-inch three-blade stamped deck and 24-hp B&S twin are wider and heavier than TS 120 46. The empty-tank manual weight is 516 lb. Confirm whole-machine clearance. The mower page links related catcher/mulch items, but their model-fit tables omit TS 120 54; do not assume attachment compatibility or meet an essential clipping requirement until the exact fit is confirmed.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Do you need a seated, conventional steering-wheel lawn tractor?

TS 120 54 uses a steering-wheel riding-tractor layout with pedal-controlled forward/reverse travel.

Explore this need in the finder →
Is gasoline power essential?

The exact TS 120 (54) operator manual specifies the gasoline engine 44U877-0044-G1; electric start is not electric propulsion.

Explore this need in the finder →
Do you require at least 54 inches of cutting width?

The U.S. article 970846501 and linked model-specific manual identify an installed 54-inch deck. Cutting width is not complete outside width.

Explore this need in the finder →
Do you require a verified TS 120 54 bagging or mulching setup?

The mower page links 54-inch options but the exact accessory fit tables do not list TS 120 54. Exact fit is unresolved, so a required bagging/mulching plan is not treated as verified.

Must a grass collector be included in the original mower package?

No. The exact manual identifies the catcher as optional equipment; separate compatibility does not meet an in-box bagger requirement.

The Husqvarna TS 120 54 (U.S. article number 970846501) is a conventional steering-wheel lawn tractor with a 54-inch installed cutting deck and a Briggs & Stratton 24-hp twin. It preserves the family’s seat-and-pedal operating arrangement while moving to a wider, three-blade deck and a heavier machine. This assessment follows the exact U.S. product page and the manual that page links; it does not report a field test or personal ownership.

Image note: Husqvarna serves the same TS 120 family studio render from its 42-, 46- and 54-inch pages. The tractor silhouette is visible, but this asset does not visually distinguish the 54-inch deck. It is manufacturer reference artwork, not a verified photograph of a specific deck-width configuration.

A 54-inch cut needs a 54-inch access plan

Fifty-four inches is cutting width, not tractor width. It offers more nominal swath than the TS 120 46 only if the full mower clears gates, shed doors, turns and trailer rails. Measure the machine or confirm exterior dimensions with a dealer. A wide deck can complicate narrow strips; neither width nor horsepower proves mowing time or acreage.

The manual lists 516 pounds with empty tanks, not the loaded trailer weight. Include fuel and attachments when planning trailer rating, ramps, tie-downs and storage. The three-blade deck has four anti-scalp wheels and a nose roller listed on the exact page; those parts do not guarantee against scalping.

Engine and ordinary tractor controls

Husqvarna lists a 24-hp Briggs & Stratton PXi2400 engine. The linked manual identifies engine model 44U877-0044-G1 and notes that the engine-maker horsepower figure is a gross rating. The manual also gives a 2.5-U.S.-gallon fuel tank, a 12-volt electric starter and hydrostatic tractor controls. Husqvarna’s product page describes the Tuff Torq hydrostatic transmission as pedal-operated; maximum listed travel speeds are 5.2 mph forward and 2.2 mph reverse. These are not mowing speeds or an output promise.

Gas power suits buyers prepared for fuel, oil, air-filter, battery and seasonal-storage chores. The owner’s manual includes maintenance intervals and safety checks; following those instructions is part of the choice, not an optional afterthought. If your priority is an electric walk-behind, lap-bar zero-turn steering or a smaller storage footprint, compare those formats directly. The TS 120 is not a zero-turn just because the deck is wide.

Do not assume the clipping kit fits from a headline

The mower is sold with its mower deck, while the linked manual identifies the grass catcher and mulch plug as optional accessories. Its exact product page presents related 54-inch triple-bagger and mulch-kit items, and the accessory headlines mention TS 120. But the accessory pages’ model fit tables list the TS 140X 54 and YTH24V54 without listing TS 120 54. That conflict is enough to withhold a confident exact-fit recommendation; a family name in an accessory title is not the same as a model-specific fit entry. Confirm the complete tractor article and serial number with Husqvarna or a dealer before buying either attachment.

For that reason, this review treats standard side discharge with the required deflector as the confirmed operating plan. It does not count a bagger or mulch kit in the carton or claim that the linked accessory pages prove exact TS 120 54 fit. If bagging or mulching is a must-have, resolve the compatibility discrepancy before this model is treated as a match. A required bagger-in-box answer is not met by a separate accessory listing.

Cut-height and terrain limits

One specification needs verification: the exact product page calls the approximate minimum cutting height 1.5 inches, but the linked manual’s TS 120 (54) technical data lists 1.0–4.0 inches. Because the page and manual conflict on lower height, I cannot guarantee a 1-inch minimum cutting setting. Ask about the current deck setup if that lower setting is an essential requirement.

The manual limits intended operation to private gardens and private-garden slopes no steeper than 15 degrees. It calls for mowing up and down instead of across and cautions about wet turf, edges, ditches, traction and stability. Treat 15 degrees as a maximum manufacturer limit, not a claim that every slope at or below it is safe. In particular, the mower-only number cannot clear an attachment-equipped slope requirement while the attachment’s fit and instructions remain unresolved.

Plan for the manual’s blade, tire, brake, interlock, belt and deck-level checks, plus engine care and storage. The published 24 hp is not an acreage estimate, and empty-tank weight is not a loaded towing figure.

How it compares with the TS 120 46

The 46-inch model uses a 22-hp EXi2200 twin, a two-blade deck and 473-pound empty-tank weight. This TS 120 54 uses a 24-hp PXi2400, three blades and 516 pounds. The wider deck and additional gauge wheels are the concrete differences—not proof of a proportionally faster cut. If your access route or storage is marginal, the 46-inch version may be easier to accommodate; verify machine width rather than guessing from the deck label. If your routine depends on collecting or mulching, the 46-inch page currently has separately listed accessories with clearer model-fit tables than the 54-inch ones. That does not mean the 46 is automatically better: it means the 54-inch setup deserves confirmation before purchase.

In the finder, require a 54-inch minimum only if you have checked the whole tractor’s route. Choose gasoline, ride-on and lawn-tractor controls if those are real requirements. The confirmed standard plan includes the deck and side-discharge setup; requiring an exact compatible catcher, mulch kit, or 15-degree attachment-equipped operation should not be treated as satisfied by the uncertain accessory table. No independent cut-quality, fuel consumption, area coverage or ownership results are asserted.
