Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Does this model have a diesel engine?
Diesel is explicitly listed for base item 5854M, while a gas-only answer must not include this diesel engine.
Explore this need in the finder →Is power two-wheel steering required?
The X750 is documented with power two-wheel steering; asking for four-wheel steering excludes this model.
Explore this need in the finder →Must the tractor use two-wheel drive?
The X750 is specified as two-wheel drive, not full-time HFWD.
Explore this need in the finder →The John Deere X750 is the two-wheel-drive, two-wheel-steer diesel tractor in the current X700 group. Compared with the X754, it keeps front-wheel steering instead of adding four-wheel steering; compared with the X758, it lacks the full-time four-wheel-drive layout. The choice is therefore less about horsepower: the three diesel models share a 24-hp, liquid-cooled three-cylinder engine and K90 hydrostatic transmission, while steering and traction are configured differently.
Start with the exact base item
Deere’s May 2026 U.S. specification names the X750 base item as 5854M, a Signature Series tractor without a mower deck. It lists separately selected 48A, 54 HC and 60 HC side-discharge mower decks. The Deere image on this page shows the X750 with a deck, but that image is illustrative: the pictured deck is not part of base item 5854M. If you are matching a dealer listing or a used tractor, read its item number and equipment list rather than assuming the deck is included. A separate deck also has to fit the tractor’s model year and serial number.
The engine specification is a 24-hp, 60.6-cubic-inch (993-cc) 3TNM74F, liquid-cooled, three-cylinder diesel with cast-iron liners. The listing pairs it with a K90 hydrostatic transmission, Twin Touch forward/reverse pedals, cruise control and differential lock. Deere lists 8.5 mph forward and 6 mph reverse as maximum travel speeds; those numbers describe travel capability, not a sensible mowing pace or a measure of field productivity. There is no source-backed acreage promise or independent fuel-use result here, so plan around your actual cutting route, obstacles, storage and operator routine.
What the X750 changes—and what it does not
The X750 is specified with power two-wheel steering and two-wheel drive. Its listed tires are 18x8.50-8 front turf tires and 26x12-12 rear turf tires. Four-wheel steering is the X754 distinction, not an X750 feature. Full-time four-wheel drive and HDAP tires are the X758 distinction, not an X750 feature. If you have many trees or tight islands, compare the X754’s different rear-wheel steering geometry before choosing; if your ground makes the traction layout a priority, compare the X758. Do not treat a four-wheel-drive description as permission to mow unsuitable slopes or wet ground.
All three diesel tractors share the stated engine displacement and 24-hp rating. A diesel requirement is still a meaningful filter: it should not be silently collapsed into the gasoline “gas” option in a mower finder. But do not buy the X750 on an assumed fuel-economy advantage. The available exact documents establish the engine type and its specifications, not a controlled runtime or consumption comparison with the gasoline X730-family tractors.
Choose the deck after measuring the route
Deere lists a 48-inch 48A deck and 54- and 60-inch High-Capacity decks as optional. The 48A shell is 10-gauge steel; the 54 HC and 60 HC shells are 9-gauge. The 48A’s wheels rotate to help remove the deck, while the 54 HC and 60 HC use drive-over installation. These are side-discharge deck choices; Deere lists separate mulch-control and material-collection parts. A bagging setup is a group of deck-specific blower, chute, hopper and mounting components—not a feature contained in item 5854M. Confirm deck, mulching or collection compatibility by the tractor and deck serials before ordering parts.
Cut width is not total machine width. Measure the narrowest gate, transport ramp, shed door and place where you must turn using the complete tractor and selected deck. The sources used here do not establish the full configured width, a residential-acreage recommendation or an X750-specific slope rating. Before using a deck or other attachment on a grade, retrieve the current operator’s manual for the actual machine serial and attachment combination, then follow its limits; do not infer a safe grade from the model family or from the X750’s steering and traction layout.
Who should shortlist the X750?
Consider it when you want a diesel-powered steering-wheel lawn tractor with conventional two-wheel steering and two-wheel drive, and you are comfortable selecting the mower deck separately. It is a less suitable choice if four-wheel steering is essential, if you specifically need the X758’s full-time four-wheel drive, or if the deck must arrive in the exact base package. The optional 48-, 54- and 60-inch deck choices are useful only after your access measurements and desired attachment setup are checked. With no deck, bagger or mulch kit confirmed in 5854M, the practical shopping task is to identify the complete compatible equipment list—not to read those accessories into the tractor photo.
In the finder, selecting diesel, two-wheel steering and two-wheel drive together identifies this particular arrangement within the diesel X700 trio. Raising the deck-width minimum selects a compatible separately purchased deck plan, not a wider deck included with the base tractor. Requiring an included deck correctly removes 5854M. If a seller’s description conflicts with the base-item specification, ask for the written, itemized bundle before treating the mismatch as settled.
