Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Does this model have a diesel engine?
Diesel is explicitly listed for base item 5874M, while a gas-only answer must not include this diesel engine.
Explore this need in the finder →Is power two-wheel steering required?
The X758 is documented with power two-wheel steering; asking for four-wheel steering excludes this model.
Explore this need in the finder →Must the tractor have full-time HFWD?
The X758 is specified with full-time four-wheel drive; the X750 and X754 are two-wheel drive.
Explore this need in the finder →The John Deere X758 pairs a diesel engine with full-time four-wheel drive, power two-wheel steering and heavy-duty all-purpose tires. It is not the X754: that tractor uses power four-wheel steering but two-wheel drive. The X758’s two-wheel steering also distinguishes it from the X754, while its four-wheel-drive layout sets it apart from the X750. Keep steering and traction separate when comparing these three diesel Signature Series tractors.
The base X758 is sold without a mower deck
Deere’s May 2026 U.S. specification gives the exact X758 base item as 5874M and labels it a tractor without a mower deck. The product image shows an X758 with a deck attached, but the base item code does not include that deck. Deere lists side-discharge 48A, 54 HC and 60 HC mower decks as separately selected options. If a retailer quotes a deck or collection system with the tractor, have the separate part numbers and package contents written down. A photo is not an itemized package list.
The published engine is a 24-hp, 60.6-cu-in. (993-cc) 3TNM74F, liquid-cooled three-cylinder diesel with cast-iron liners. Deere lists a K90 hydrostatic transmission, Twin Touch forward/reverse pedals, cruise control and differential lock. The X758 specification states full-time four-wheel drive; it lists 18x8.50-10 front HDAP tires and 26x12-12 rear HDAP tires. Those are real configuration distinctions, not a measured guarantee of traction on a particular surface. The X758 is power two-wheel steer, with a listed 25-inch turning radius. For the 54 HC and 60 HC decks, the stated uncut-circle radii are 32 and 28 inches, so buyers whose primary issue is tight rear-steered turning should compare the X754 instead.
When four-wheel drive is the deciding requirement
Consider the X758 if you specifically want Deere’s listed full-time four-wheel-drive configuration in a steering-wheel diesel lawn tractor. Its pairing of that drive layout with HDAP tires differentiates it from the two-wheel-drive X750 and X754. The manufacturer spec does not supply a terrain guarantee, an acreage rating or an independent traction test. A four-wheel-drive tractor can still lose grip or become unsafe, and the model choice does not establish that mowing a wet slope is appropriate. Use the actual operator’s manual and the conditions at the site; do not infer a safe grade from drivetrain or tread.
If close turns around trees are more important than a four-wheel-drive requirement, the X754’s power four-wheel steering and much smaller stated uncut-circle values for 54/60 HC decks may be the more relevant comparison. If conventional two-wheel steering and two-wheel drive are sufficient, the X750 offers the shared diesel engine and hydrostatic-control family without those two X758 distinctions. The three models share published engine displacement and power, so the choice should follow the exact steering and traction need rather than an unsupported claim that one cuts faster or uses less fuel.
Select a complete deck and operating setup
Deere lists a 48-inch 48A deck and 54- and 60-inch High-Capacity decks, all separately selected from 5874M. The 48A shell is 10-gauge steel; the 54 HC and 60 HC shells are 9-gauge. Deere describes wheel-assisted removal for the 48A and drive-over installation for the two HC decks. Side discharge is the listed deck mode. Separate mulch-control parts and deck-specific Power Flow bagging equipment are available, but they are not included in the base tractor code. A complete collection system can involve a blower, chute, hopper, bracket and ballast; check each part against the tractor/deck model-year and serial details.
A 48-, 54- or 60-inch cutting swath is not the full outside width of the tractor-and-deck combination. Measure doorways, gates, trailer access and storage with the selected hardware installed. The specification used here does not state full configured width, an acreage capacity or the X758’s attachment-specific slope limits. Before buying a deck or running any attachment on a grade, locate the operator’s manual matched to the tractor serial and the chosen equipment. Do not reuse a slope limit from another X700 manual or transfer a mower-only limit to a bagger, snow implement or other attachment.
Who should compare the X758?
It belongs on the shortlist for a buyer who requires diesel, full-time four-wheel drive and is content with two-wheel steering. It is not the right fit if four-wheel steering is essential, if you require a deck in the exact base item, or if a seller cannot verify the tractor/deck/attachment combination you want. The HDAP tire pattern and four-wheel-drive specification are reasons to compare the X758 for traction needs—not evidence that it will fit a tight corner, protect turf in every condition or handle a slope beyond the serial-specific manual’s limits.
The finder should require diesel, full-time HFWD and the correct two-wheel steering layout together. A minimum deck width refers to a separate compatible deck plan, not the base product; an included-deck requirement rejects 5874M. Compare the X758 with the X754 if you are torn between traction and turning geometry, and with the X750 if you do not need the X758’s traction arrangement. Verify the exact dealer configuration, warranty terms and PIN-specific operating instructions before purchase.
