A useful fit for

A 40V-platform buyer who wants an 18-inch push mower with a one-pack 6Ah battery and charger in the exact package.

The main tradeoff

This remains an operator-pushed 18-inch mower with mulch or side discharge, not powered travel or rear bagging. The single included pack does not guarantee coverage of a particular lawn.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Must the exact kit include a battery pack?

Yes. RY401101 includes one OP40605 40V 6Ah pack; the related RY401010BTL tool-only code includes none.

The RYOBI RY401101 is a 40V 18-inch push-mower kit built around the RY401010 mower body. Unlike the near-identical RY401010BTL tool-only code, this package includes one 40V 6Ah battery and the OP404 charger. That makes it the clearer entry point for a household that needs both mower and power source, while the bare tool remains the more sensible option if compatible 40V equipment is already in the shed.

The kit changes the purchase, not the mower’s job

RYOBI’s exact U.S. page names model RY401101 and itemizes the RY401010 18-inch mower, one OP40605 40V 6Ah lithium-ion battery, one OP404 40V charger, start key, side-discharge chute and operator manuals. The operator manual itself is labeled for the shared RY401010/RY401010VNM body. The kit code and body code therefore answer different questions: RY401101 identifies what is bought together; RY401010 is the mower that the manual explains. This distinction also keeps the RY401101 from being confused with the tool-only RY401010BTL.

The 40V pack is part of RYOBI’s 40V system, not its 18V ONE+ platform. If your existing batteries are 18V, this is not a battery reuse purchase. If you own compatible 40V tools, compare the exact battery and charger contents with what you already have; there is little value in treating a duplicate charger as an upgrade unless you want another charging position.

Compact and operator-propelled

An 18-inch cutting path can suit a modest lawn with narrow passages or storage limits, and the mower’s handle folds for storage. It is push-only, so the operator provides the travel effort. There is no powered wheel drive hidden behind the 40V label. That distinction matters on longer routes and inclines: a battery-powered blade reduces the need for gas and oil handling, but does not make the mower self-propelled. A broader self-propelled mower is a more direct comparison when the route is long or pushing effort is a central constraint.

The shared manual specifies seven cutting-height positions from 1.5 to 4 inches, set with one height lever. For clipping choice, the body supports mulching with its cover in place or side discharge with the supplied chute. The package list does not include a catcher and the manual does not document a rear-bagging configuration. Buyers who require bagging should choose a mower with a documented catcher and operating plan instead of assuming that a nearby lawn-and-leaf accessory can be attached.

Understand the battery claim as a ceiling

RYOBI says the mower can run up to 30 minutes using the included 40V 6Ah battery and describes the intended yard as one-quarter acre or less. These are manufacturer estimates, not an independent test or a promise that every lawn of that size fits one charge. Grass height, moisture, cut setting, pace, obstacles and the amount of side discharge or mulching work all affect demand. The mower has one active battery port, so the included pack is the installed supply, not one of two batteries the machine can switch between automatically. If your schedule requires more than one charge, plan for that separately rather than interpreting the maximum claim as a guaranteed yard-size rating.

Safe use is part of the fit

The 40-page manual states that the mower should not be used on slopes greater than 15 degrees and directs mowing across the face rather than up and down. It also warns against wet ground and mowing wet grass. Before changing the chute, cleaning beneath the deck, adjusting cut height or servicing the blade, stop the mower, wait until the blade stops, remove the start key and disconnect the battery. The manual explicitly prohibits cleaning with a hose, water or other liquids; wipe it dry and store indoors. This is a practical storage commitment for buyers who expect to keep outdoor equipment uncovered.

The 2025 CPSC notice 25-127 lists specific 40V brushless 21-inch mower codes, including some RY401-series models. RY401101 and its 18-inch RY401010 body are not among the exact model codes named in that notice. That limited check does not certify an individual unit or replace a current model-and-serial check with RYOBI if you are evaluating a used mower.

Who should buy this exact kit?

Choose RY401101 when you want an 18-inch push mower, mulching or side-discharge operation, and a battery-plus-charger package in one purchase. Choose RY401010BTL if the same body fits but you already own the compatible 40V power equipment. Choose another mower if self-propelled drive, rear bagging, a wider swath or longer claimed runtime is essential. The comparison should be about the equipment in the exact carton and the work you want to do, not the platform headline alone. No personal ownership or laboratory performance data is claimed.
