A useful fit for

For an owner who wants a 22-inch self-propelled Super Composite mower with two active Peak Power battery ports and already has compatible batteries and charger.

The main tradeoff

LM2240SP is the bare tool with no batteries or charger. Its 90-minute maximum is an ECO-mode manual estimate with two 6 Ah packs, not an included-package or area-per-charge promise.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Does the mower have two active battery ports?

Yes. The linked LM2240SP-family manual documents two active ports and Peak Power operation with one or two packs.

Does the LM2240SP package include a battery pack?

No. EGO lists this exact configuration as tool-only, with batteries and charger not included.

Explore this need in the finder →
Is the deck a Super Composite deck?

Yes. EGO identifies the 22-inch deck as Super Composite and states a 10-year limited deck warranty.

Explore this need in the finder →
Does the base LM2240SP manual list a High-Lift Bagging lower blade as included?

Yes. The manual packing list includes a High-Lift Bagging lower blade; the same evidence is not assumed for the separately sold LM2244SP-2 kit.

Explore this need in the finder →
Does the 90-minute figure apply to the bare tool with no batteries?

No. It is a manual estimate in ECO mode using two compatible 6 Ah packs, which LM2240SP does not include.

The EGO LM2240SP is a tool-only version of a 22-inch Super Composite self-propelled mower with Peak Power dual-battery ports. On EGO's US product page, the related LM2244SP-2 configuration is listed with two 6.0 Ah batteries and a Dual Port Charger, while LM2240SP is separately labeled “Tool Only” with neither batteries nor charger. The page currently says “Coming Soon”; this review explains the documented configuration and fit, not present retail availability. Check the exact model code and package before buying because the kit suffix changes what arrives with the mower.

Two active ports are not two included packs

Peak Power combines the output of two EGO 56V ARC Lithium batteries, and the manual describes using one or two batteries. That is different from the number supplied: LM2240SP is the bare tool, so its included-pack count is zero. The manual lists up to 90 minutes in ECO mode with two 6.0 Ah packs, but those packs belong to the separate LM2244SP-2 kit, not to LM2240SP. The figure is a manufacturer estimate under a light workload; actual time varies with grass species, density, moisture and settings. The manual offers no basis for promising a particular lawn area per charge or for assigning the same runtime to a single pack.

This split is useful when you already own compatible batteries and a charger, especially if you want to add a dual-port mower body to an existing EGO system. It can be a poor fit when you are starting from nothing or when “battery included” is a hard requirement. In that case compare LM2244SP-2 and count its two 6 Ah packs as separate batteries, not as one 12 Ah battery. The questionnaire should reject LM2240SP for an included-pack minimum even though the mower has two active ports.

Composite deck and clipping control

The 22-inch Super Composite deck is the main material choice. EGO describes it as impact-resistant and states a 10-year limited deck warranty. Its manual lists a 70.3-pound weight without battery. That is much lighter than the 83.8-pound no-battery specification in the LM2200SP aluminum-family manual, although a mower's mass is not the same as how it feels to turn, push or store. A cast-aluminum deck buyer should compare LM2200SP instead, and should weigh the warranty terms separately rather than assuming either deck is inherently indestructible.

The mower pairs Touch Drive self-propel with a speed dial and a published 0.9–3.1 mph range. It remains a person-guided walk-behind machine. A single knob selects among eight cutting heights from 1 to 4 inches. The unusual practical feature is the five-position Clip Selector: the manual describes a range from full bagging to full mulching, with intermediate positions that direct some clippings into the bag and some back onto the lawn. A side-discharge chute is also supplied. The 2.5-bushel bag gives a straightforward collection option, while the selector lets you adjust clipping flow without treating the mower as a simple three-mode switch.

EGO publishes up to 10.6 ft-lb of torque and 3,200 rpm blade speed, with ECO, Normal and Turbo blade-speed modes. These are the manufacturer's maximum specifications, not an independent comparison test. The manual recommends avoiding wet grass and cutting no more than about 1.5 inches of growth in one pass when trying to maximize runtime. Set height and pace to the lawn's actual condition rather than relying on the maximum figures to overcome a difficult cut.

Included accessories are documented separately from batteries

The exact base-model manual cover names LM2240SP and LM2240SP-FC. Its packing list for that mower family identifies the machine, grass bag and frame, a factory-installed High Performance blade set, a High-Lift Bagging lower blade, a side-discharge chute and the manual. The manual does not list a battery or charger, which agrees with the exact US configuration row for LM2240SP. The High-Lift blade is thus a documented included item for the bare tool even though it is not shown in the product rendering. Do not transfer this package detail to a different kit SKU without checking that kit's own carton list.

The manual gives an IPX4 rating based on the mower and battery working together, but also says not to mow in rain or wet grass. Remove both battery packs if present before cleaning or service, wait for the blades to stop, and follow the manual's safety steps. A splash rating does not override weather, slope, guarding or maintenance instructions.

If you want the same 22-inch Peak Power base in a factory-certified reconditioned package, compare the separate LM2240SP-FC review. Its no-battery/no-charger status is similar, but its one-year reconditioned-product coverage and listed package condition differ from the standard LM2240SP.

Who should shortlist LM2240SP?

This model fits an owner who wants 22-inch self-propelled mowing, a composite deck, two active battery ports, adjustable clipping flow and already has compatible packs and charger. The LM2244SP-2 kit is the more complete one-purchase route if you need the two 6 Ah batteries and dual charger included. The cast-aluminum LM2200SP is the competing 22-inch choice if deck material and its distinct published torque figure matter more than two-port operation. If you prefer one supplied 10 Ah pack instead of two 6 Ah packs, compare the 22-inch LM2236SP kit; it has a composite deck but not the same dual-port Peak Power arrangement.

For the finder, make self-propelled drive, Super Composite material or two active ports essential only if those requirements truly decide the purchase. A minimum of one included battery must remove LM2240SP; a cast-aluminum requirement must remove it too. A 22-inch width minimum, bagging support or confirmed included High-Lift blade can keep it eligible. Before ordering, account for the additional cost and storage of batteries and charging equipment, verify the retail model suffix, and make sure the machine fits the path to your lawn. The assessment is based on EGO's exact configuration row and its linked model manual; it does not claim hands-on mowing results or current stock.
