Battery and exact configuration
EGO 22-inch bare tool or battery kit?
A 22-inch EGO mower can look like a single choice until the model suffix changes the deck, number of active battery ports and supplies in the carton. The two bare tools covered here are not interchangeable: the LM2200SP uses a cast-aluminum deck and one battery position, while the LM2240SP has a Super Composite deck and two active ports for Peak Power operation. Each is self-propelled and each exact manufacturer row lists batteries and charger as not included. Start by deciding whether you are choosing a mower body for an existing EGO battery system or buying a complete working package.
Inventory the battery system before comparing packages
Write down the exact battery codes and charger you already own, then check that they are EGO 56V ARC Lithium products compatible with the mower. A two-port mower is not a two-battery kit. LM2240SP includes zero packs; LM2244SP-2 is the paired kit with two 6.0 Ah batteries and a Dual Port Charger. Similarly, LM2200SP is the bare-tool row, while LM2206SP is listed with a 10.0 Ah battery and a 700 W Turbo Charger. If you must buy a pack and charger anyway, compare each kit's full contents rather than assuming tool-only is cheaper after additions.
Battery count and port count also answer different questions. A two-pack kit can use two packs sequentially in a single-port machine; two active ports can draw on batteries through Peak Power. For LM2240SP, the manual says the mower can operate with one or two packs and gives up to 90 minutes in ECO with two 6 Ah packs. That maximum is not the bare-tool runtime promise: the packs are not included, actual time changes with the lawn and settings, and no area-per-charge figure is established. Choose an included-battery requirement only if the pack must come in the purchase.
The exact LM2240SP-FC code is the factory-certified reconditioned bare-tool listing, not a new mower kit. Its package list names the 22-inch mower, catcher, side chute and High-Lift blade, but no battery or charger; EGO lists one year for reconditioned consumer products. Compare it with standard LM2240SP if you want the same bare-tool approach without the reconditioned condition, and with LM2244SP-2 if you need two batteries and a charger included. The FC version is most relevant when you already own packs and accept the shorter coverage; it should not match a requirement for a new configuration or included batteries.
Choose the deck and storage tradeoff
If cast aluminum is important, LM2200SP is the 22-inch self-propelled choice here. EGO states a lifetime limited deck warranty with registration. The linked model manual lists 83.8 lb without a battery, with the mulch insert installed. By contrast, the LM2240SP's Super Composite deck carries a stated 10-year limited deck warranty; its manual gives a 70.3 lb bare-tool weight. Those published numbers make the composite model lighter on paper, but they do not prove which mower is easier to steer on your terrain or which material will last longer for you. Both are wide walk-behind machines, so measure the narrowest gate, storage door and path, not just the lawn.
The LM2240SP adds a five-position Clip Selector that ranges from full bagging to full mulching with hybrid positions; the manual also documents side discharge. The aluminum LM2200SP uses a mulching insert, bag or side-discharge chute. Both have eight cut heights from 1 to 4 inches and a 2.5-bushel bag. Consider how often you collect clippings, mulch, or discharge to the side, and whether you want the composite mower's intermediate clipping adjustments.
Use exact package evidence, not a familiar photo
Both base-model manuals list a High Performance blade set and a High-Lift Bagging lower blade along with the grass bag/frame and side-discharge chute. The exact tool-only rows do not include batteries or chargers. The respective kit pages do not repeat the complete blade-by-blade packing list, so do not transfer the bare tool's manual package contents to LM2206SP or LM2244SP-2 without checking the exact kit carton. A manufacturer rendering can show the mower body while omitting included items; use the model number in the configuration table to identify the package.
To compare fit, ask whether self-propelled walking is essential, whether aluminum or composite is required, and whether two active ports matter. Then add a battery-in-kit minimum only after deciding how many compatible packs you have. The LM2200SP assessment is for a single-port aluminum bare tool; the LM2240SP assessment covers a dual-port composite bare tool. For the complete aluminum kit, see LM2206SP; for the two-pack composite package, compare LM2244SP-2. If one 10 Ah battery supplied with a composite deck is preferable, review the LM2236SP.
Before checkout, confirm the full SKU, the battery and charger contents, the deck warranty conditions and whether the product is actually orderable. EGO's two 22-inch product pages currently label these configuration rows “Coming Soon,” so no purchase or in-stock claim belongs in a comparison. Follow the current manual for charging, slope, wet-grass and cleaning limits; IPX4 is not permission to mow in rain or wash the mower with a hose.
